A heat sink draws heat away from components such as transistors, power modules, LEDs and processors and releases it into the air through its fins, keeping equipment from overheating and losing service life. Aluminum (aluminium) is the reference material because it combines good thermal conductivity, low weight, reasonable cost and excellent extrudability and machinability. That is why it is found in power electronics, LED lighting, telecommunications and renewable energy. Good machining makes the difference between a heat sink that works on paper and one that works inside the equipment.

At Mecanizados Nymec we turn aluminum profiles into ready-to-assemble heat sinks. We cut to length, drill and tap holes to mount components, mill pockets and seats, and face the base, the surface in contact with the component, which must be flat and smooth to transfer heat efficiently. We do it on our Haas VF-2SS, VF-3SS and VF-4SS vertical CNC machining centres, 3-axis machines that are ideal for machining heat sinks.
Every heat sink is different: fin height and count, hole length and position all vary. That is why we prepare the programming and fixturing for each reference so the fins do not deform and the base stays flat across the entire run.
Serial production: thousands of parts, all identical
Our way of working is built for series. Once the first part is approved, we program the process and repeat it with the same setup, so part number one thousand comes out exactly like the first. We spread production across around ten CNC machining centres and back every run with digitised quality control, so each heat sink meets the drawing and fits the assembly without surprises. We can take on aluminum heat sink machining from prototype runs to series of thousands of parts.
